Innen Stadt Außen (Ville Intérieur Extérieur)

Première exposition d'Olafur Eliasson à Berlin, ville dans laquelle il vit et travaille (professeur à l'Université des beaux-arts de Berlin et directeur de l’Institut für Raumexperimente - Institut d’expérimentations spatiales).

Innen Stadt Außen étudie les rapports du musée et de la ville, de l’architecture et du paysage ainsi que de l’espace, du corps et du temps. Les explorations menées dans l’espace muséal seront appuyées et commentées par des projets éphémères dans l’espace public et relieront ainsi le Martin-Gropius-Bau à différents lieux de la ville.

Espace et lumière sont au coeur des nombreuses oeuvres spectrales d'Olissaon, ils sont au coeur de cette exposition que le commissaire Daniel Birnbaum décrit ainsi :

"Planning this exhibition at the Martin-Gropius-Bau and in various outdoor sites across the city, we initially considered the solar system, with its celestial bodies rotating around a central star, as a working model for the spatial organisation of the artworks. At some point, we decided to avoid this most mechanistic of metaphors to describe the interrelation of the artworks and the city – encounters that also actively embrace the unpredictable. Even if the spaces of the Gropius-Bau do indeed represent the luminous heart of this project, the exhibition by no means resembles a cosmic clockwork, and neither does life in the city. However, Eliasson is an untiring  examiner of horizons, orbs, suns, and spheres of vision, and these continued to resonate in and inform our exhibition discussions as expansions of the solar system."
